Family Reunion in DC!

May 21, 2016

Our long-awaited family vacation in Washington, DC begins!  Sara has been living in DC since last October, and we have been planning our vacation visit with her for months.  Parents arrived first from Los Angeles early Saturday evening.  It was raining when we landed (apparently, it has rained nearly every day for several weeks in DC), but the rain failed to dampen our spirits.  By the time Evan and Laura’s plane from San Francisco landed about 45 minutes later, Mom had picked up our rental car and we were ready to go.  Our first stop was the end of the Metro line closest to the Dulles Airport, where we picked up Sara.  Lots of hugs!  We then drove straight to Great Falls, Virginia, to the home of our friends, Jean and Alan.  Jean and Alan had had Sara and Laura live with them four years ago when the girls were interning at the Senate.  It was wonderful to see both of them (as well as their dogs, Duffy and Beasley!), and they were incredible hosts.  They had a delicious pasta and veggie dinner waiting for us, which we enjoyed while catching up with each other.  After several hours (we kept Alan up way past his bedtime, I’m afraid), we all retired to our beautifully appointed guest bedrooms.  Jean and Alan’s home is wonderfully comfortable and quiet, and our evening with them was the perfect way to start our trip.
