Today started with more blue corn pancakes – delicious! We left Canyon de Chelly after breakfast and headed west toward Sedona. There are lots of long, lonely miles along the way. In fact, being somewhat unaccustomed to such desolation, we weren’t minding our gas gauge very carefully. Fortunately we hit civilization about 20 miles from empty.
Our route took us through Winslow, so we stopped to stand on a corner and take it easy. Actually, we had lunch too, but we had fun taking pictures of the Jackson Browne statue alongside the mural of the girl in the flatbed Ford. It was a fun stop.
After Winslow, we drove on through Flagstaff and then descended about 2,000 feet (in which the temperature climbed about 15 degrees) and on toward Sedona. We had another beautiful day, and the scenery around Sedona is gorgeous. Lots of people come to Sedona to go hiking among the red rock peaks, and it’s easy to see why. We reached Sedona, checked into our hotel and enjoyed a little time by the pool before heading out for an early dinner. We went to one of the current hot spots, Elote Cafe, and had inventive and delicious Mexican food.
We returned to our hotel after dinner for our horseback riding antidote: massages. We each enjoyed a different type of massage. While they didn’t eliminate the sore spots from the saddles, they sure felt good.
